Kid Cudi & Dot Da Genius: 11 Facts about WZRD + The WZRD NYC Listening Session (Video)

Damn, with these glasses he must be able to see through walls! But let’s begin with 11 facts about the WZRDs:

  1. The name “WZRD” is inspired by the Black Sabbath song “The Wizard”
  2. All but one song on the “WZRD” album was recorded at “Scotts Crib”. The last song on MOTM2 was “Trapped in My Mind” and in turn was the only one recorded at “Scotts Crib”.
  3. “High Off Life” was the only song on the album recorded at Wildman’s Tour Bus during the Cud Life Tour in 2011 while in Nebraska.
  4. All though Empire of The Sun was not featured on the song “The Dream Time Machine” the australian duo consisting of  Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore were credited with “Sound Design”.
  5. “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” was originally a Leadbelly song from 1944 that Nirvana covered in 1993. This led to Cudi & Dot covering the song after watching the Nirvana Unplugged performance. The guitar on “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” was recorded on an iPad and then Cudi’s vocals were added to it when they returned to New York.
  6. The album was entirely produced by WZRD with Dot Da Genius playing the Bass, Keyboard, Percussion & Drums and Kid Cudi playing Guitar, Keyboard, Percussion & Drums.
  7. Kid Cudi said he had writers block for almost 5 months because of his new sobriety. Something that never has happened to him for such an extended period of time.
  8. WZRD contains no swearing even though Cudi says “”Most people are pussies”. If you make try to argue otherwise Cudi will prove you wrong “Pussies is a word used when talking about multiple cats – My daughter watches Puss N Boots, it’s not a swear word”.
  9. In the WZRD album booklet Cudi describes the ending of “Brake” as a “Wicked break down through the cosmo’s”.
  10. Dot Da Genius included a special shout out to the fans in his Thank Yous for the album saying “Thanks for the support and hopefully ‘Dose of Dopeness’ is out by now haha”.
  11. Kid Cudi dedicated the WZRD album to 3 people: his mother Elsie Mescudi, his best friend Miss Jamie Baratta and his daughter Vada Wamwene Mescudi.
